Native Americans walked these hills before Spearfish was founded. The Deadwood to Spearfish stage line crossed this land. A pioneer farm left behind a 19th-century limestone milk house still standing in the hillside yard today. The iconic white barn at the forest's edge has greeted travelers coming into Spearfish since 1939.
The Miller family raised cattle, horses, llamas, and a buffalo named Libby on these oak and pine forested slopes for generations. When the ranch sold in 2020 the white barn stayed. The history stayed. What gets built here now becomes the next chapter.
